So, Pretty Dead. Mmm. Not for me. I'll be loyal to FLB forever, and there was plenty of her beautiful language throughout, but I didn't love this particular novel. Is it intended as series, I wonder, or was it a one-off? I'm not sure if I want it to be one way or the other because on one hand, I didn't fall for any of the characters and don't miss them, but on the other there's one part of my brain that would like to see her given another chance to win me over. That's not much of a recommendation, though, is it? I agree with Jodie who commented about the gorgeous cover - kudos to the designer, at least.
My inlaws bought me a Kindle for my birthday and it is the bomb. Never fear, it will not replace physical books in my heart or hands, but for what it is, it's excellent. I only intended to use it for travel and for back-and-forth from work (ok fine, to read while on the breast pump), but I went and downloaded Emma Donaghue's Room and I found I couldn't stop reading so I broke my own rule and used it at home. Which reminds me: Room is masterful. I highly recommend it, and wholeheartedly agree with Liz's spot-on review, especially about the teen-appeal factor.
Maybe this will be my final post for 2010, maybe not, but just in case: Happy Chanukah, Merry Christmas, and Wonderful Everything.

I was so disappointed with this book. I expected more from FLB. I really wanted to like it, but it felt like she wrote a vampire book because that's what was popular and not because she had a compelling story to tell.
