Just a quick pop-by to let you know what I've been working on:
That's my little dude, Harrison, who will be two whole months old on Saturday. He's already inherited my love of reading...
Let's hope that he develops my taste for sleeping through the night next.
We didn't find out the baby's sex while I was pregnant, but I had a strong feeling that I was having a girl and I was so looking forward to raising a kick-ass little feminist. To my surprise I got this baby boy, the absolute perfect baby for me, and in addition to his own awesomeness I realize I still have the opportunity to raise a kick-ass little feminist. Not as an agenda or as an experiment, but as a way of taking this person my husband and I brought into the world and helping to shape the kind of future for him that is my dearest hope for all children. This child will turn out how he turns out, and I'll give him all the love regardless, I just hope my best for him will be my most positive contribution to society.
Thanks all for your well wishes. Motherhood has been a gas so far, and I'll get back to blogging soon enough.
I felt the same as you about thinking I was having a girl, then finding out it was a boy (twice), then relishing the challenges of raising a thinking boy. Bonus, you don't have to put up with all that princess crap.
I know I'm likely in the minority here, but I got Guess How Much I Love You as a gift at some point, and was appalled by it. The subject is love, but the dad bunny spends the book saying he's bigger, faster, stronger than the kid? Even in the name of love, I found that creepy.
I much prefer the Boynton oeuvre. Also check out Leslie Patricelli and track down Helen Oxenbury stuff. And enjoy that cute boy, especially now that he must be smiling.
