This just in: I finished Little Dorrit.
Time was, it took more than finishing a book in under two years to be impressed with myself. I found it to be a fairly rollicking read, especially after I was able to start picking up on the humor and identify the author's own preferences and prejudices in the characters. Dickens had about a Maxim-level appreciation of the womenfolk, am I right? I really enjoyed the brilliantly cast Masterpiece Theater version that aired about a year ago (which inspired me to read it in the first place). It's funny, according to a transcript of my grades that I came across recently, I took a Dickens class my junior year of college. I have no memory of this whatsoever. So I guess I can start anywhere if I want to catch up on the canon. First, though, I've got to get back to some really good YA. What's everyone reading and loving right now? As always I'm greedy for recommendations. I'm thinking this is probably a good time to finally get my hands on the Hunger Games trilogy. I do love a series I can read from beginning to end without a pesky wait, and as the holidays are nigh upon us this kind of indulgence seems appropriate.
Happy October-almost-November! I hope to be back at least one more time before the year is up.
